Duration

  • Two Years (Four Semesters in continuum).

Eligibility

  • Any Graduation from recognized university.

Audience

  • The Master of Science in Yoga Therapy is tailored for yoga teachers seeking to advance their careers as Yoga Therapists. This program equips them to develop individualized yoga therapy plans for clients in one-on-one and small group settings. Students learn to bridge the gap between ancient yoga wisdom and rigorous research practices, enabling them to collaborate with allied health professionals in supporting clients on their healthcare journey. In this two-year program, students enhance their practical knowledge of the experiential sciences of yoga and yoga therapy. They receive mentorship in applying this knowledge across various sectors, including the fitness industry, healthcare, and education. The program takes a comprehensive approach, aiming to equip future yoga therapists with the skills to enhance client biopsychosocial health and well-being through the applied practice of yoga therapy.

Curriculum

  • The curriculum is grounded in client-centered, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care, respecting all classical yoga traditions without adhering to a specific yoga lineage. The M.Sc. Yoga Therapy program prepares yoga therapists to excel in a complex world. Students develop their applied yoga therapy skills through classroom learning, clinic theatre training, peer-to-peer experiential learning, yoga therapy mentorship, and supervised yoga therapy practice. Students start with a full year of didactic study in the experiential science of yoga therapy. They then take a comprehensive exam to assess their readiness to advance to working with clients in one-on-one and small group settings. In the second year of study, students receive mentorship from clinical faculties too. Throughout this period, they gain a thorough foundation in the theoretical, scientific, and experiential aspects of yoga therapy for both one-on-one and small group settings.

Students who complete the Master of Science in Yoga Therapy program will

  • 1. Explain the classical and theoretical foundations of yoga therapy.
    2. Describe biomedical systems from an integrative and holistic perspective, as required for the practice of yoga therapy.
    3. Utilize knowledge gained from this curriculum and previous yoga teacher trainings to assess client needs, design and implement effective programs, and evaluate their effectiveness.
    4. Apply yoga as a therapeutic modality effectively by integrating diverse approaches within the field.
    5. Maintain professional conduct in the practice of yoga therapy.
    6. Utilize relationship-based approaches to facilitate positive change or transformation with clients.
    7. Apply critical thinking and science-based literacy to further the development of yoga therapy as an integrative health practice

Career opportunities

  • · Graduates of M.Sc. yoga therapy program will get employed in a variety of settings including private practice; integrative group practices; health care systems; hospitals; school systems; and colleges and universities.
    · Many graduates chose to have a portfolio career in which they have multiple positions and employers within one or more profession, rather than one full-time job. A portfolio career provides such individuals with variety in their work life and the opportunity to develop a wide and varied professional network.
    · Yoga is one of the key modalities cited for non-pharmacologic approaches in the health care industry.

  • The Asian Institute of Public Health University, the first public health university in Eastern India, has conceptualized a global standard system of education. As part of AIPHU commitment to advancing health equity, the program encourages yoga therapy students to learn how to engage effectively with wellness and healthcare providers, by developing their inter-professionality skills and their use of biomedical communication so they can collaborate with care teams and support clients in both community wellness and healthcare settings. AIPHU cohort-based program builds a strong community that continues long after graduation. AIPHU graduates benefit from a strong alumni network, both inside of the yoga therapy program and across other AIPHU integrative health programs, as well as continued career services support.
